The Face Behind Five Hearts

Hi *big wave*

I'm Stephanie (or Steph, or mum mum mum mum 😜) the Owner, Creator and Designer of this my business baby, Five Hearts.

I started off as a small town girl, being born and bred on Kalkadoon (Kalkatungu) Country in Mount Isa, a small mining town located in North-West Queensland. I am a proud First Nations woman from descending from the Kalkadoon tribe through my mothers family, while my father was born in Scotland.

As a fresh faced 21 year old, I braved new adventure as I moved away from everything I knew to follow my heart to the big smoke. It was a dream I had for many years but it wasn't until meeting a 'guy' on an online sports forum that I decided to take a leap of faith.

This was back in 2008. Since that time, I moved in with and married that 'guy', my husband of 13 years, Chris. Work has seen us live in New South Wales and move around Queensland.

Over the years, together we have danced at many a festival, travelled overseas and around Australia, bought property, renovated, added fur babies and eventually welcomed human babies.

Although I may be the main face of the business, our 3 energetic little boys aged 8, 5 and 3, are always keen to offer 'assistance'.

Juggling motherhood and running a business comes with challenges but I couldn't more thankful for their inspiration, along with the support of my husband - who didn't freak out when I woke up one day with the dream to design picnic blankets and throws!

  • Why the name 'Five Hearts'?

Our name was inspired by the 3 hearts I have tattooed on my wrist which symbolised two babies which we lost and my first baby bought into the world, Teddy.

Since that tattoo in 2016, we have been blessed with two more crazy boys, so in total I carried 5 little hearts.

Five Hearts is also symbolic as we are now our own little family of five.

I spent many days and nights breastfeeding our youngest while looking at a banner in his room that said,

    'And then there were five'

  • Why throw blankets?

Well, heading out with our little family, I would loathe the ugly and generic picnic blankets that took up residence in our boot.

Being a mum, I value versatility and practicality. I love that my throws are reversible, machine washable and can be used in so many ways both indoors and outdoors.

I wanted to create something that was practical, comfortable, quality and fun, while being pretty to look at too. I wanted conversation starters.

These are pieces that individuals, couples, friends and families want to share moments on and will be the centrepiece to making memories, wherever you dream.
